We want to support classroom teachers in creating rich learning experiences for their students. We hope to do so via teacher collections, extra benefits when using a library card, library tours, classroom visits, and other possibilities.

Teacher Collections

With your JCPL library card, teachers and homeschooling parents can check out 50 items at a time (Books, DVDs, CDs, Library of Things, etc.) and keep them for up to 6 weeks (with the exception of mobile hot spots). At the start of the school year, visit your local library branch to show proof of your employment via check stub or school I.D. You are responsible for renewing items as needed, lost or damaged items, and returning items on time. If you would like a librarian to gather a collection of books for you, please contact us through the Children's Services Department Manager or fill out a Collection Request Form below for the branch you want to pick up the materials. Please submit your request at least one week before the desired pick-up date to allow our librarians sufficient time to gather materials.

    Services for Teachers and Students

    Book Talks and Book Discussions

Did you know that the library has multiple copies of several popular titles that we can provide to your classroom for either a teacher-led or librarian-led book discussion? In addition, we are happy to come and book talk new titles, award books and favorite genres to your students to help expand their reading interests.

    Classroom Assignments and Reading Lists

If you have a particular assignment where students might need to gather research materials, please let us know ahead of time. Or, if you have reading lists for your classroom, let us know so that we can check on the availability of our copies.

    Library Instruction and Tours

We are happy to provide library instruction, whether in your classroom, in your staff meeting or at the library! We have a variety of databases available for use that we would love to share with you. Also, contact us to arrange a tour of the library to see what services and programs the library has to offer. To request a visit or tour, please contact the Children's Services Department Manager at the branch nearest you.

    Programs for Students

JCPL librarians are happy to work with teachers to provide high-quality, educational, entertaining programs for students. We can plan to visit your classroom or arrange to have the students visit the library. Contact us to find out what program subjects we offer, or what topics you are looking for.

    Staff Meetings

Our librarians are happy to visit several teachers and staff members at a time at your school during a staff meeting. We can share what the library has to offer, as well as get to know you and your curriculum needs better.
