Last month was Library Card Sign-Up Month, and if you're reading this, chances are you've already got a JCPL card. But are you getting the most out of it? Sure, your library card lets you check out books, movies and more from any JCPL location. But you don't even have to leave the house to use your card. We’re always finding and adding great new online services for our cardholders. Here’s some new things you can try out on your computer or mobile device. Remember, all of these services are completely free – all you need is your JCPL card.

ArtistWorks – This one’s for the aspiring rock stars in Johnson County. ArtistWorks offers more on-demand video training, but for a variety of musical instruments, including guitar, piano, voice and even DJ scratching. Whatever your skill level, you’ll enjoy instruction from award-winning professional performers.

NoveList – The best place to go when you need a new book to read is NoveList. Just enter your favorite book or author, and NoveList will create a personalized list of recommendations. Every book in the NoveList database has been tagged by librarians and other reading experts based on “appeal factors” like character, pacing and setting. Use it to find your next great read, or a gift recommendation for the friend who has everything.

Transparent Language Online – Transparent makes learning a new language fun and easy for students of all ages. With over 100 languages, as well as English instruction for a variety of native speakers, you’ll find Transparent’s self-paced instruction a great way to pick up some phrases for your next trip, or to immerse yourself in advanced study.

TumbleBooks – The newest edition to the library’s e-book collection offers something for our younger patrons – hundreds of picture books, early readers and chapter books, available anytime on a computer or mobile device. With unlimited access, you and your little one can read the same book on multiple devices, or your early reader can enjoy audio read-alongs and animated books too.
