A limited number of eclipse viewing glasses will be available for program attendees.

Eclipse Tip Sheet for Johnson County Residents



All JCPL Locations will be closed on Monday, April 8, 2024 due to the eclipse. 
  • The Library is open regular hours on Sat, Apr. 6 and Sun, Apr. 7 and our parking lots are reserved for Library visitors.
  • We will close at 5 p.m. on Sun, Apr. 7 and remain closed until Tue, Apr. 9 at 9 a.m.
  • Access to our parking lots and free Wi-Fi will be available on the day of the eclipse. [There will be no access to the buildings].

Indiana Astronomical Society presents the Solar Eclipse

The solar eclipse will be on April 8, so come listen to the Indiana Astronomical Society's presentation on this event! Eclipse glasses will be provided. Registration required.

Johnson County Public Library is gearing up for the next celestial event of the century, the April 8, 2024 Solar Eclipse. This total solar eclipse will cross North America, passing over Mexico, the United States, and Canada. The duration of totality will be up to 4 minutes and 27 seconds, almost double that of The Great American Eclipse on August 21, 2017.

This will be a great opportunity for our community to celebrate science with fun displays and hands-on activities, culminating in the total solar eclipse event on April 8, 2024.

Join us as we explore space and learn about the upcoming eclipse. For All Ages.
Thanks to Festival Country and the JCPL Foundation, eclipse glasses will be available to those who attend on a first-come, first-served basis.

  • Free Timed Entrance Ticket Needed
     (pick up a ticket the day of the event)

Indiana Astronomical Society

  • Total Eclipse Presentation: Noon & 3 p.m.
