Adult Learning Center - Become an ALC Volunteer
The ALC depends on its volunteers to provide valuable literacy services in Johnson County.
Our Volunteers serve in the following ways:
Adult Basic Education (ABE) Tutor
Volunteers help students improve their reading levels, writing skills, and basic math skills. Students are then able to seek opportunities for improving their lives and the lives of their families.
English as a Second Language (ESL) Tutor
Volunteers assist new residents to our country gain valuable language skills that will enable them to lead successful, independent, and useful lives in their new home.
BabyTALK Hospital Volunteer
BabyTALK volunteers visit families who have just given birth at Johnson Memorial Hospital. Each family is given a literacy packet that includes a welcome letter, a registration sheet, a parent resources book, a board book, and a newsletter about newborns.
