Adult Learning Center Tutors volunteer their time and energy to help improve the lives of the residents of Johnson County. No prior experience in education or foreign languages is needed to get involved.
The Adult Learning Center homepage has more information about the services we provide to ALC students.
New tutors will meet with ALC staff to determine what currently available opportunities best match the volunteer’s interests and skills. The ALC will also provide access to training resources for volunteers without experience tutoring adult learners. Volunteers are required to undergo a background check as part of the application process.
Volunteer tutors meet with students in one-on-one or small group settings. Tutoring sessions are conducted at the Adult Learning Center or a Johnson County Public Library branch location.
Tutors submit a monthly progress report to the ALC Coordinator documenting the learner’s progress. ALC staff will be available for consultation and assistance as needed.
Prospective tutors are encouraged to contact the ALC or fill out the ALC Volunteer Form.
