JCPL is celebrating the inspiring and diverse lives of people in Johnson County. We want to see it through your eyes by participating in the JCPL Photo Contest that showcases “Life in Johnson County, Indiana.” Capture those vibrant moments and express what human life in our county looks like to you! Photographers of all ages and skill levels are welcome to submit photos. Winning photos will be displayed in the meeting room at the new Clark Pleasant Library Branch.

Deadline to enter was Midnight on January 21, 2022

Awards

  • Grand Prize (1 winner): Best vibrant life moment: $500.
  • Young Photographer (1 winner): Best vibrant life moment taken by a photographer under 18 years of age: $300.
  • Honorable Selections (up to 13 selections): $50

Judging

Photos will be judged on originality, technical excellence, composition, overall impact, artistic merit, and subject matter relevance to life in Johnson County. Judging will be conducted by a panel of local professionals.

Rules Summary

  • All photos must be taken in Johnson County, Indiana between Dec. 2020 – present.
  • Photos must include people in Johnson County performing any task or enjoying activities that demonstrate life in our county.
  • Photos must be submitted without any editing beyond cropping, exposure adjustments, sharpness and minor color correction.
  • Entries must be received by Jan. 21, 2022.
  • The photographer must be a resident of Johnson County, Indiana.
  • Entries must be submitted by the original creator.
  • JCPL may use the winning photographs, with credit, in our buildings, promotional campaigns, on our website and in social media.
  • Images remain the copyright of the photographer.
  • Photos must meet JCPL’s community standards. Eligibility is at JCPL’s sole discretion.
  • Each photographer can enter five (5) photos; only one winning photo per person.
  • Winners must provide a photo release for any person in a photograph captured at a non-public event.

Photo Details

  • If you are taking pictures with your phone, you can upload the photos directly from your phone using the form.
  • Photos can also be uploaded from a computer using this form.
  • The only edits allow to your photos are cropping, exposure adjustments, sharpness and minor color correction.
  • File format: jpg, jpeg, PNG
  • Remember, only photos taken after Dec. 2020 are eligible.
  • The photo should be uncompressed. Photos that are not print quality are not eligible to win.

      * If you email the photo to yourself, to get it off your phone, it may be compressed and not print quality, and therefore, not eligible to win.

  • The maximum file upload size from this page is 25MB. 
      * If all the photos you are submitting are larger than 25MB combined, you can upload photos in separate submissions.
  • Remember: A maximum of five (5) photos is permitted per person.

Contest Rules and Terms

By entering, entrants (legal guardian if entrant is a minor) confirm that the photograph(s) that they submit: are their original creations; do not infringe any other person’s or entity’s rights; and were not taken while trespassing on private land.

Entrants (legal guardian if entrant is a minor) agree to have their submitted photograph(s) used In JCPL’s internal and external communication materials including, but not limited to, our buildings, promotional campaigns, our website and in social media without any compensation due at any time for so long as desired by JCPL. Credits, descriptions, and titles used with the photograph(s) are at JCPL’s sole discretion.

If the ownership of any photograph(s) submitted is challenged in any manner by any person, JCPL may disqualify that photograph(s) and will discontinue the use of the photograph(s).

Your Rights

If you submit a photograph to the JCPL Photo Contest, you grant Johnson County Public Library a royalty-free, nonexclusive right during the JCPL Photo Contest and in perpetuity to:

  • Display the photograph at the new Clark Pleasant Library Branch.
  • Allow third parties to share the photograph on social media platforms, including Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, YouTube and others.
  • Use the photograph, with credit:
    * In JCPL’s internal and external communication materials including, but not limited to, our buildings, promotional campaigns, our website and in social media.
    * Provide your photograph to other individuals and organizations for JCPL-related use.
  • Use, in connection with the JCPL Photo Contest, your name and city/town in promotions and other publications.
  • Retain a digital copy of your photograph archived in the JCPL photo library and accessible to JCPL staff.

Privacy and Publicity

Any information you submit as part of this photo contest will be used in accordance with JCPL’s Privacy Policy. The information you provide when you enter is provided to JCPL. You consent to JCPL’s use of your name in any list of winners (if applicable) and for promotional purposes in any media without further payment or consideration.
