Knitfiti

Knitfiti

Be a part of a public art installation at the Johnson County Public Library Services Center in Franklin. This project will cover much of the front of our administrative building and landscape with knitted or crocheted creations. The art project will be installed just before the Ethos Festival of the Arts on October 7.

You can participate in Knitfiti in two ways:

1. Register to participate in designing and creating the fiber art.

2. Donate yarn for the project; drop off your yarn donations at the Library Services Center or any JCPL Branch. Any weight, amount or color of yarn is acceptable.

Knitfiti program sessions begin on August 3 and continue weekly through October 5. We meet from 4–6 p.m. at the Library Services Center, 49 E. Monroe St.

Teens or adults with basic knitting or crocheting skills can participate. During our first session, we will plan what surfaces to cover with our creations and make any necessary patterns. In the following sessions, we will focus on creating the art. Knitting needles and yarn will be provided. We encourage you to bring your own needles or crochet hooks. If you use your own needles or hooks, you can take your art home to continue working on it. Please attend as many of the Knitfiti sessions as you can.

During our final session, you will help install the Knitfiti art. The art will then remain on display through the end of October. At that time, artists may come to pick up their work and take it home.
